When you hear the name Donkervoort, what comes to mind? Some of you may giggle at the way it reads or sounds, but dedicated car aficionados know the marque implies serious business.
If you still need convinced, consider what the F22 has to offer those who have invested in one.
We first heard about the lightweight high-performance roadster towards the end of 2022.
With a weight of only about 1,654 pounds, this bad boy has the potential to become a beast with the right power plant. It demonstrates that the Dutch know a thing or two about adrenaline-pumping thrills by equipping the F22 with a powerful engine.
We’re looking at an Audi 2.5-liter inline-five rated at 500 horsepower and 472ft-lbs of torque paired with a five-speed manual transmission system from TKX.
Fitted to a carbon fiber and hybrid tubular steel/aluminum chassis, Donkervoort has a robust recipe for a machine that can withstand “over 2G of lateral acceleration.”
Track testing results show a 0-60 mph acceleration time of 2.5 seconds and a top speed of 180 mph. The two-seater also has a Twin Targa carbon fiber canopy that can be removed. To really experience the F22 as an open-top ride and capture the atmosphere of retro motoring, release the three locks.
Donkervoort is keeping its fleet old-school in an era when premium vehicles, supercars, and hypercars are turning electric. Given that the market for gasoline-powered powertrains is relatively solid, it’s expected to remain so for the time being.
The F22 was originally planned to be built in 75 units, but strong demand forced the firm to build 25 extra.
