Hotel Villa Honegg is a place that seems like it’s straight out of a dream, especially with its famous infinity pool offering breathtaking views of Switzerland. But this boutique hotel has so much more to offer beyond its pool. Located just over an hour’s drive from Zurich Airport, the journey itself is a scenic delight, passing by lakes, mountains, and picturesque Swiss towns, setting the stage for an exciting stay.
.
Perched above Lake Lucerne, Hotel Villa Honegg enjoys a commanding position that’s perfect for mountain enthusiasts. One highly recommended trek is the path leading to Känzeli, where you can enjoy a different perspective of the hotel while gazing out over Lake Lucerne towards Weggis. Continue your adventure to Hammetschwand, a 158.2m elevator that feels like it’s transporting you to the heavens. The view from here offers a 180-degree panorama of Lake Lucerne, making you feel on top of the world.
.
During my stay, I couldn’t help but take deep breaths, savoring the clean mountain air and relishing the escape from the city. The return journey leads you through a serene forest with the crispest of air, enhanced by the autumnal hues, making for a truly special walk.
.
For those seeking a flatter path, you can follow the road around the golf course to Bürgenstock Resort. The terrace at the Grand Hotel there provides yet another breathtaking perspective of Lake Lucerne.
Despite being a boutique hotel with just 23 rooms, Hotel Villa Honegg exudes a cozy and luxurious ambiance that’s hard to resist. From the sumptuous linens to the Hermes toiletries, the rooms are designed to make you feel right at home. You’ll have to choose between a mountain or lake view, but I highly recommend the latter. Waking up to mist drifting over the serene waters below is a true delight. Additionally, first-floor rooms come with a spacious terrace complete with loungers, a unique feature not found on other floors.
At Hotel Villa Honegg, relaxation is taken seriously, so much so that breakfast is served until 2 pm. Enjoy your morning meal on the restaurant’s stunning terrace to ensure you don’t miss a moment of the magnificent views.
In the evenings, the dining room takes on a romantic, candlelit atmosphere. The restaurant has earned 14 Gault Millau points for its exceptional food quality, setting, and service. The menu boasts locally sourced ingredients and a diverse selection. If you have a sweet tooth, I highly recommend the chocolate lava cake for dessert.
However, it’s the spa at Hotel Villa Honegg that truly steals the spotlight. The outdoor pool is heated year-round, and during my stay, it was my go-to spot. Even in November, the outdoor loungers facing the lake come with cozy blankets, making it the perfect place to unwind.
The only downside to my stay was the relatively small size of the spa and the admission of day spa guests. As a result, even though we were staying at the hotel, we couldn’t secure spa treatments. To avoid disappointment, make sure to book your spa treatments at the same time as your room reservation.
Having seen Hotel Villa Honegg’s spa all over Instagram, I had high expectations, and I was initially nervous that reality wouldn’t live up to the hype. However, with the help of the clean mountain air, scenic walks, perfect weather, and a delightful vegan dessert, my experience surpassed my expectations, leaving me utterly enamored with this Swiss gem.
