The SLR Mercedes-Benz In honor of reaching its 20th anniversary, McLaren organized many events at its Woking Technology Center. Activities focused on the automobile and the teams behind it mirrored this legendary partnership between Mercedes and McLaren. Members of the SLR Club, a group of fans for SLRs, had the opportunity to meet part of the McLaren crew that worked on the project when they visited MTC.
Released as ‘Project 7’ at Silverstone in 1999, the Mercedes/Mclaren team built the renowned super-GT car until 2009, when their partnership came to an end. Afterwards, McLaren Special Operations (MSO) has expanded on the ‘Project 7’ foundations.
More than 2,000 Mercedes-Benz SLR McLarens in all configurations were constructed, with the first customer delivery being in the summer of 2004.
Between 1995 and 2009, McLaren and Mercedes-Benz were Formula 1 partners. During that time, McLaren won four World Championships. Sport fans seemed to like the way Mercedes-Benz’s engine and McLaren’s chassis development worked together.
