Bаɾаcƙ оbаmа’s Nιƙе HyρеɾԀu𝚗ƙs sσlԀ fσɾ $25,000 аt SσtҺеby’s

Though they’re not the Air Obamas, a wealthy sneakerhead will have the chance to buy a limited-edition pair of basketball sneakers this week that are designed in the 44th President’s honor. The rare pair of Nike Hyperdunks will go up for $25,000. The auction firm Sotheby’s will be holding the online sale on Friday at 4:44 p.m. ET, in honor of Barack Obama’s election as the 44th President.

The presidential emblem is located on the tongue flap of the expensive white sneakers, which also include a dark blue iconic Nike “swoosh” with dark blue accents. Each shoe also has an embroidered number “44” on the inside, done in red and blue thread. Deeply ingrained on the insoles are images of bald eagles and the year “1776.”

Obama has been a strong advocate for social justice reform among sports even if he is no longer in government. The Hyperdunks are not the first shoe that was created with the former President in mind. Obama has been a basketball fan since he was a little boy.

At a Golden State Warriors game in 2018, NBA player Steph Curry—who has teamed with Obama’s My Brother’s Keeper Alliance, which strives to me𝚗tor boys and young me𝚗 of color—wore his special Curry 4 sneaks with the Obama “O” insignia on them. Later, they were put up for auction.
